What Is the Augsburger Panther Hockey Team?

The Augsburger Panther is a professional ice hockey team that plays in the German Hockey League- Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). They partnered with KINEXON Sports because they wanted to start applying advanced sports analytics during practices and games. Their goal was to track and optimize their players’ performance on the ice.

What Systems Are Used To Collect Hockey Analytics?

KINEXON Sports uses two types of technologies to collect hockey analytics: LPS and IMU

LPS stands for Local Positioning System, which uses radio frequency sensors to precisely locate the players and the puck on the ice in real-time.

IMU stands for Inertial Measurement Unit, which uses wearable devices to measure the players’ speed, acceleration, deceleration, distance, load, and other metrics. By using these technologies, the Augsburger Panther monitored and analyzed their performance and workload in every practice and game.

They also used the data to create visualizations and reports that helped them improve their tactics and strategies.

As a result, the team achieved remarkable improvements in their game, such as reducing their injury rate, increasing their scoring chances, and reaching the top three in the league standings.

Elite Hockey Teams Rely on KINEXON Sports

The Augsburger Panther is one of the many elite hockey teams that trust KINEXON Sports to provide them with the most advanced hockey analytics in the world.

KINEXON Sports is also used by teams in the NHL and other international hockey leagues.

Through innovative player tracking and analytics solutions, ice hockey is being seen from an entirely different perspective. High precision location and motion-sensing devices enable the AEV to take the next step in managing training and load management during the season.
