AI Software in Training: KINEXON Sports Further Expands Its Partnership With FC Bayern Basketball in the Field of Basketball Analytics
Munich, September 5, 2024 – KINEXON Sports, market leader in basketball performance tracking and analytics, is expanding its partnership with FC Bayern Basketball to include AI-based analysis software. The German champions will use the new innovation KINEXON COMPETE Vision from the 2024 – 25 season. This will automatically count and analyze all shots in training using state-of-the-art computer vision technology.
With four BBL championships (2014, 2018, 2019 & 2024) and four national cup wins (2018, 2021, 2023 & 2024), FC Bayern Basketball is the most successful German basketball club of the past decade. With KINEXON LPS and KINEXON IMU, the FCBB coaching teams have been successfully relying on two top products for recording and analyzing performance and stress data since 2018.
With KINEXON COMPETE Vision, the double winner is now closing an important data gap: For the first time, the throwing performance of all athletes is also recorded seamlessly and in the context of the training load.
Coaches receive detailed statistics on all their players' throws
To calculate context-related throwing statistics, the software automatically evaluates video recordings of training sessions with the help of AI algorithms. The system is not only able to count successful and unsuccessful throwing attempts of each individual player but also to calculate throwing rates and exclusive performance data such as “Shot Load.”
Shot Load is an exclusive metric from KINEXON Sports. For the first time, it calculates the accumulated acceleration load of the player in the ten seconds before the throw and thus categorizes the stress of the throw as “low”, “medium” or “high”.
The AI-based analysis software not only counts all throws in all training sessions, but also provides high-quality throwing data — without the need for wearables. Coaches are thus supported in making better game decisions based on robust, contextualized training data.
Plus, it is the only system that can even recognize multiple balls simultaneously to capture the entire training session.
